This fun and easy felt crafts project takes only a little time and a few inexpensive materials to make a doily sachet.
You can use this in a drawer, a closet, storage box or on a door.
Or, for the holidays, they make beautiful scented decorations for your tree.
With just a few materials you can make this:
Easy Felt Crafts: Doily Scent Pouch Materials and Tools:
Craft felt (your favorite color) one small piece
Doilies - two, three inches in diameter
Ribbon - 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide, one piece 16 inches, one eight inches
Yarn or sewing thread
Needle
Scissors
Ruler
Compass or circle template (bottom of round glass)
The Steps for How to Make the Easy Felt Crafts: Doily Scent Pouch:
Take a look at the materials for the project.
Various scent options are shown, but you can use other alternatives as well. The doilies are three inches in diameter.
Use a circle template 2.25 inches in diameter to cut the inner circles out of felt for the pouch to hold the scent.
Here, we use a contrasting green felt for the inner circles.
With needle and thread or yarn (shown here), sew simple running stitches around the circles 1/8 inch from the edge.
Leave a thread tail to tie to the other end when you finish the circle.
Stop to fill the pouch with scent.
Some options for the scent include fragrance pellets found in home decor stores, spices found in grocery stores or scented bath powder.
The stitches around the scent pouch could allow small particles such as the powder to fall out.
First, wrap the powder in a layer of facial tissue, then place the tissue wrapped powder into the pouch.
For ground spices - such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, apply the same tissue technique.
The tissue prevents the small particles from falling out of the pouch, yet it allows the scent to penetrate through the felt and the doily.
Finish sewing the circle and tie the ends of the thread into a bow.
This simple bow permits you to replace the scent easily.
Determine the right (outer) and wrong (inner) sides of each of the two doilies.
Place the wrong sides together and match the holes around the outer circle.
Hint: This project is easier if the two doilies are the same type or at least have the same number of holes for weaving the ribbon.
However, if the doilies are different, make adjustments as you weave the ribbon.
Begin weaving the ribbon through the holes in both doilies.
Stop to insert the scent pouch between the two doilies.
Finish weaving the ribbon and tie a simple bow.
This can easily be untied and partially unwoven to change the scent.
Add a hanging loop in one of the holes in just one of the doilies.
The hanging loop goes on a hanger in a closet, on a door knob, on a drawer pull or a simple hook.
It also can hang on a Christmas tree.
The loop is optional if you plan to use this as a sachet in a lingerie drawer or in a storage box.
The white with the green felt and ribbon makes a pretty contrast, but this tone-on-tone version looks like an elegant Victorian creation.
(Note: these two doilies did not have the same number of holes, but it still looks elegant.)
How about the green and white doily sachet with cinnamon and cloves hanging on the Christmas tree?
Or, what about the Victorian version with a soft vanilla scent permeating the vicinity of your tree?
This easy felt crafts project simply becomes an inexpensive yet pretty doily sachet.
The scents placed inside can be feminine for a lingerie drawer, spicy for the holidays or a fresh scent for the home.
Enjoy!
