The Steps for How to Make the Easy Paper Crafts: Paper and Straws Flowers:
Cut all the materials for the project.
Cut eight strips of paper 1/4 inch wide by 8 1/2 inches long (the width of regular paper).
I'm using four strips of pastel blue and four strips of pastel green.
Cut four straw pieces each 3 inches long.
Cut two pieces of yarn 7 inches long.
Cut two pieces of yarn 14 inches long.
Cut one piece of yarn 18 inches long.
Use the T-pin (or other sharp object) to make a hole in the center of each length of straw.
Push one 7-inch piece of yarn through the punched holes in two straw pieces.
Push the second 7-inch yarn through the other two straws.
Use the yarn to wrap around the two straws to form an X.
Pull the yarn ends snugly, tie a knot and trim the ends.
Using the same steps, form an X with the second set of two straws and yarn.
Place one X shape over the other to form equidistant eight points.
Hold one end of a 14-inch piece of yarn in one hand and begin weaving the yarn around the points.
Continue weaving until three strands of yarn are around the shapes.
Pull the yarn ends together on the back and tie into a knot.
Do not trim the ends of the yarn.
With the second 14-inch piece of yarn, begin weaving around the straws opposite to the first weaving.
Continue wrapping the yarn until three strands are around the shape.
Pull the yarn to the back and tie the ends in a knot.
Do not trim the yarn ends.
On the back, pull the yarn ends together from the two previous knots.
Tie the yarn ends in a knot and trim the yarn.
Insert one end of the 18-inch yarn under the yarn knot.
Pull the ends even and tie a knot roughly 1-inch from the ends to form a hanging loop.
Pinch each of the straw ends vertically.
Fold four of the paper strips in half.
Insert two adjacent ends of the paper strips into one of the background straws.
(Four of the straw points will be back further and four will point forward more.)
Add the next paper strip.
Skip over the forward pointing straw to the next background straw end.
Hold the end of the previous strip and the end of the next strip together to push them into the straw.
Finish the background shapes by pushing the paper strips into the ends of the alternating straws.
Add two of the foreground strips of paper into one of the forward pointing straw ends.
Continue adding the remaining paper strips to finish the foreground shapes.
This one of the fun little Paper and Straws Flowers is finished and ready to display.
Take a look at this example made with all rounded shapes in one color.
Or, how about this yellow version with pointed shapes all around.
Just plain paper and simple plastic straws that come in packages of 100 turn into pretty flower shapes.
Have fun making one or many!
The fun and easy Paper and Straws Flowers would also make pretty additions to tablescapes - just leave off the hanging loop and add candles over the centers of the fun shapes.
