The Steps for How to Make the Easy Felt Crafts: Cocktail Napkin Holder:
Select the colors of craft felt to complement - either match or contrast - with the color of the cocktail napkins.
I chose black, brown and goldenrod craft felt for this cocktail napkin holder to match the colors in the cocktail napkins.
Cut two pieces of the black craft felt 5 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches for the bottom.
Cut two pieces of the brown felt 1 1/2 by 10 inches for the sides.
Cut one piece of the goldenrod felt 2 by 5 1/2 inches for the top.
Place the two black felt pieces together matching all edges.
Find the centers of two opposite sides of the black felt bottom.
Find the centers of the two brown felt side pieces.
Either measure or fold the pieces in half.
Use pins to mark the four center points.
Match the centers and pin all of the thicknesses together.
Pin the brown felt sides to the black felt bottom.
The brown felt sides do not go all the way around the bottom edges.
The two open areas allow thumbs and fingers to select cocktail napkins.
On three edges, pin through all thicknesses.
On one edge with an opening in the brown felt, pin the brown felt to only one of the black felt pieces.
This will allow the tile to be inserted.
On the four corners, fold the brown felt to match the edges.
Do not clip the corner.
Prepare the yarn needle and yarn.
Begin stitching 1/4 inch from the opened edge through all thicknesses.
I used a blanket stitch, but a simple running stitch would look great too.
Check out the How to Sew Stitches free e-book for details.
Continue stitches in a counterclockwise direction.
Stitch around the three edges sewing through all thicknesses.
At the fourth, open edge, stitch once through all thicknesses, then begin stitching just through the top black felt.
The open edge allows the tile to be inserted.
Find the center on each side of the brown felt.
Mark the centers with pins.
Fold the top in half lengthwise to find the center on each end.
Match its center points to the center points of the brown felt sides.
Pin each end of the goldenrod felt to the brown felt sides.
Prepare the yarn and needle.
Sew the ends of the goldenrod felt to the brown felt edges.
Glue the decorative weight to the center of the goldenrod felt.
A smooth rock would be a simple yet elegant alternative.
Insert the tile into the open end of the easy felt crafts cocktail napkin holder.
The tile's weight keeps the napkin holder in place.
Remove the packaging from the napkins and place them in the easy felt crafts cocktail napkin holder.
The easy felt crafts cocktail napkin holder is fun and inexpensive. It's simple yet functional.
You can also make the cocktail napkin holder in different colors and add embellishments to match your party's decor.
