Easy Felt Crafts: Index Cards
Envelope
Index cards help organize those special recipes. But, index cards work great for daily to do lists, longer term
goals, favorite quotes, business ideas, improvement tips and the list grows and grows. Here's an easy felt crafts
project showing how to make an index cards envelope organizer.
Let's take a look at the index cards envelope, empty and with index cards.

The finished size is 3.5 in x 5.5 inches. The flexible sides allow the envelope to adjust
whether it holds a few cards or hundreds.
Easy Felt Crafts: Index Cards Envelope Materials and Tools:
- Craft felt (your favorite color) 9 in x 12 in
- Yarn (size 3 or size 10 crochet yarn both work great)
- Yarn darner needle (a pack of size 14 to 18 gives you alternatives)
- Scissors
- Bead (optional)
- Pattern (see below for downloadable pattern)
The Steps for How to Make the Easy Felt Crafts: Index Cards Envelope:
Print the pattern. Cut one each of the back, top flap and bottom flap. Cut two of
the end flap from the craft felt.
Thread your needle with the yarn of your choice.

Sew blanket stitch to connect one end flap to the back panel across the end. (Our Fun Easy Christmas Ornaments 2008 e-book contains detailed pictures
and how to steps for sewing the blanket stitch.)
Hide the beginning knot on the inside of the seam.

Next, continue the blanket stitching to connect the top flap to the back panel.

Following around the back panel, keep sewing the blanket stitch to attach the second end flap to the back.

Now, add the bottom and last flap to the back panel with the blanket stitch.
Secure your end thread, hide the end inside the seam and cut the thread.

Starting at one of the four corners of the back panel, hide your beginning knot within one of the seams. Begin
blanket stitching around the flaps.

Finish by securing your end thread, hiding the end within a seam and cutting the thread.

For closing your index cards envelope, add a braid to the center of the top flap.
The braid shown here is 2.75 inches to the knot with 3/4 inch of fringe beyond the knot.
Add a loop to the middle of the seam connecting the bottom flap to the back panel. The loop shown here
consists of two threads covered in the blanket stitch.
The optional bead makes threading the braid through the loop easier.

You can make several of these in different colors for different purposes.
A green one can hold recipes, a red one can hold project ideas, a blue one can hold motivational quotes, a
yellow one can hold your short term to do lists and a purple one can be for long term goals.
They also make great gifts especially if you also include index cards with recipes, quotes, or other helpful
lists.
For students, index cards make great study aids. They could have an index card organizer for each subject.
